via Nova Spivack, these thoughts from Teknos:
We keep trying to create an analogy for social networking — is it like a mob? Is it like the Internet? Is it like groupware? What if we used the human brain as an analogy? ... if we approach digital social networks like this — there would not be an overall organized "structure" per se, but there would be a highly evolved system of data management. Instead of a LinkedIn (or any other system) style of listing everyone I know, and everyone who knows who I know — it shows a list of other nodes that I am strongly connected to. This strength is based on the quality and quantity of "connection" to that node. The node could be another person, or it could be a website/weblog/asset. This way, my "network" is a constantly evolving dynamic representation of my digital presence. ... This "connection level" is broadcast through the network via some kind of semantic protocol. and other nodes that have a similar connection strength "catch" the information — and initiate connections with my network of nodes. Instead of trying to control the structure of the network, you let the semantic content of the network control the structure.
